Description

Thatch and Dial make a cameo on this illustration! Watch them perform if you haven't already! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bbeafv…

Also, Beyond the Western Deep fans will recognise Asha from Songs of the Eastern Sands on the right - read up on her adventures with the Sand Spiders if you haven't already! www.westerndeep.net/comic/song…

This was an exercise that purposed twofold:

i) To build up on my visual assets to the world of Ashworth: Tales of the Cummanwald Swordsman - a brand new webcomic series that :iconjurdganer: and I are working on.
ii) To experiment on how the comic pages will be presented in full colour. I'm a fan of limited palette canvas with mute colours. So far this is lookin' pretty good!

This city was inspired by architecture from the Byzantine Empire era. I asked Gabriel for a name to this desert-esque city and he came up with Lurnum. I think we will be revisiting this place in future!

Illustrating this was a lot of fun! Getting the lighting and values was crucial. Take note that I originally wanted to set this for about noon but decided to go for an early morning kind of moment as the adventurers walk into town and couldn't help but notice the sweet sound of music being played in the distant. 8-)
Thatch and Dial also had a pose change. Either would have worked but I decided on the second take because the initial looked too close to the poses of the official image that is floodin' on the net. X3

They look like a nice distraction from whatever serious business is going on! I love how they seem to bring in the light to this shadowy setting.
