:star: Process to 'Ashworth - Serenaders'

Illustrating this was a lot of fun! Getting the lighting and values was crucial. Take note that I originally wanted to set this for about noon but decided to go for an early morning kind of moment as the adventurers walk into town and couldn't help but notice the sweet sound of music being played in the distant. 8-)

Thatch and Dial also had a pose change. Either would have worked but I decided on the second take because the initial looked too close to the poses of the official image that is floodin' on the net. X3

Best piece of advice? Just do it. = ) Alot of people will watch and read tutorials/artistic work process but never physically to pencil or paint the exercise. Just give it a go and learn from your experience. ;)

Great work!
Do Ashworth ever see some drunk-looking types, like, walking sharks who wanders around in big boots?

What kind of brushes did you use?

An excellent question Fruitso - a wide variety of custom brushes that were packaged and designed by this Jonas De Rio - SUPER handy jonasdero.selz.com/item/53bdbf…

I utilised the round brush for the sketch and inks and then for the colouring/rendering I used mostly watercolour/paint brush and some textured brushes. Check out the image above where I took a screen shot - in the FAVOURITES brushes tab I used #1 for drawing and #7 & #8 for the painting. ;)

Thanks Mily! Not sure if you caught this at the very moment I posted this but I added two more images to show that I do use references to help me build the environment - it really helps and I believe that it will help you too in future drawings/illustrations! ;)

Then again, your backdrops on the more detailed pieces are pretty damn good already - it blends beautifully with your 'toony' style. 8-)

Why did you change the poses of the serenaders?

There wasn't really any hardest part really, all in all any illustration has it's challenges. Perhaps the one that remain consistent is having a good idea of what you'd like to draw in the first place. ;)
