Today marks a special day for me - as cheezy as it may be - my very first Sonic the Hedgehog (by Archie Publications) comic book issue has arrived at the doorstep to my residential address in San Francisco.

I've been living in the states for over 2 months now and I'm lovin' it. I've always told myself whenever I'm purchasing the comics back home in Perth, Western Australia - "Damn, those guys livin' in the states are sure damn lucky, they got the comics for half the price (and even less when bought on a special discount via subscription!) compared to what I'm payin' over here!"

Darkspeeds' first Sonic Comic arrival @ US address by darkspeeds

Now I don't have to live with that notion anymore - I'm finally here and enjoying my comics at ridiculous prices (got a year's worth of Sonic the Hedgehog & SONIC UNIVERSE for only $40.80 US, FORTY EIGHTY FOR FORTY FOUR ISSUES?! That's only NINETY THREE CENTS PER ISSUE (tax inclusive - BLIMEY HELL!! That's what I call a BARGAIN mate!! For comparison I paid about $5 USD per issue back in Australia!)

Not only that I get to also enjoy the convenience of not having to go to the comic book store every time to collect them (though I will still go visit comic book stores on occasion to get my magazines and extras, it doesn't feel right not supporting the local distribution/business at all levels, plus you get some exercise and meet some down to earth people in the process)!

Darkspeeds' Sonic and Megaman subscriptions by darkspeeds

I got myself copies of Megaman too, gonna make sure I do my research if I want to work for Archie (video game franchise/adventure department) one day!

Anyways like I said it's quite a special day, especially when it's a Friday (a day off from four day of classes per week - which means three days of free time to work on homework, and I got a TON of them at the moment...), plus I've officially reached my half way mid review point for the whole semester (gee whiz that's bloody quick! It's already been half a semester at school? It's amazing when you think about it...) For your information I'm getting very good marks for my mid-point review. It's not exactly reaching the A's I'm looking for but it's considered above average by the school's standards.

I'll be sure to remember this guys and gals, since I'm a huge fan of the comics and the guys behind it (aka Archie Publications team), that fact that SONIC UNIVERSE 57 is pretty darn special - the issue that commemorates a lot of things since moving to the United States to do my studies at the Academy of Art university.

*Happy sigh*... Alrighty then!

Time to share with you all more awesomeness! Check out what I did with my posters (from the SONIC SUPER SPECIAL mag: poster edition)!

Be sure to check out the latest update from her fantastic Sylvanna series (collaboration with Ian Flynn, prime writer of the Sonic Archie comics) - the very first page is out and it's a great way to start the story!

Dawn also contributed to Archie Publications as of recent with a remarkable variant cover to SONIC UNIVERSE 57 - the very same issue that is special to me as of today! 8-)

It's very late for me to say this but I'll say it still: Welcome to the U.S. and good luck with your studies! :) I'm a fan of your artwork and have been inspired from your work ever since I started surfing the web as a kid years ago and discovered sonic fan art/comics being on the internet. I think it was around 2005 or so... Anyway, I wish you all the best in your art career! ^_^

One of my dream careers is to work for Archie too. I also want to work for Disney and to make a living on my own comics. What companies do you want to work for and such as well as wanting to work for Archie?

I'm a subscriber of the comics too. ^_^
Just SU and STH, I want to subscribe to the Mega Man comics too, but I also like the graphic novels with the behind the scenes features at the end of the books. I like seeing people's fan art in the comics as well in the monthly issues... Kind of a tough choice and I unfortunately can't do both. :P I tend to go back and forth. One story arc I get as a graphic novel while the other I get as the individual issues.

Hey there Mary, thanks for the welcome and wishing me luck on my studies!

Happy to know that you've been a fan of my works, I'm especially happy to know that my stuff has inspired you in some manner.

I see that your discipline is in Graphic Design, a great start and it is a career where I believe is much more secure than the arts/entertainment industry - advertising and marketing is needed in every business and there is usually an abundance of jobs related to that field.

Your graphic design work needs work if I were to critique from first impression, you got the basics like typography and such but I can't wait till you get into university degree program where you can excel those fundamentals taught in your associates and blow clientele with an awesome portfolio.

I'd like to work for Archie but probably at a freelance level for the moment. I'm happy being in California and perhaps one day I may very well work for the school at the admin/international students enrollment department.

I'm studying art as a lifestyle to be honest, to make a career out of it is a bonus but my priority now is to try to migrate to the States legally and fairly - also to find myself my life partner too, I'm getting to the age of wanting to have a family already.

It's awesome to know that you love and respect Archie comics, they are an amazing company with a strong reputation at what they do. Wish you luck getting there one day, if not Disney is also another awesome avenue to check out.

The only tip I got for you is - be prepared to show you best work and only your best. Go make yourself a kickass portfolio - the graduation paper does nothing in the art industry.

What a coincidence! I got that Sonic Universe issue the same day as you got it, and I actually just finished reading it when you wrote this! Ain't life strange?
Anyway, nice poster collection!

Well, Bean was as hilarious as ever.
The banter between Whisker's minions was funny as well, and we got to find out who his real boss is (the elusive Dr. Nega!)
Finally, Captain Metal is at his most badass version of himself here, and I can't wait to find out what his plan is in the next comic. :)
Also, that off-panel. Marine and Bean meet for the first time, and I think we all expected what was coming. :XD:
