:bulletgreen: WHAT'S ON OFFER? :bulletgreen:

Hi everyone! I've been meaning to make a page dedicated to what I can offer in terms of commissions! I'll keep this updated as my portfolio grows. Commission prices may change at any time but I'll try to keep it as fair as possible. Without further ado let's see what's on offer!

:star: CHARACTER ILLUSTRATION :star:

:bulletblue: [Description]

A drawing of one character posed on white background. This is done in a drawing style similar to what you'll find in a sketchbook!

:bulletred: [Cost] = $30 USD  (+$20 USD for additional characters. Depending on volume and detail of additional characters after two, price will drop to $10-$15 USD per extra)

COMMISSION #13 Cooperthehedgehog ($20) by darkspeeds COMMISSION #20 Cooperthehedgehog ($40) by darkspeeds

:star: COMPLETE DRAWING (with Simple Background) :star:

:bulletblue: [Description]

A full render of any character of your choice doing whatever you feel would best reflect their personalities and represent a scenario!

:bulletred: [Cost] = $50 USD (+$30 USD for additional characters. The same rule applies to additional larger-scaled props such as a vehicle/motorcycle/full bodied mascots etc...)

COMMISSION #04 - FriskeCrisps by darkspeeds COMMISSION #18 Loor101 ($80) by darkspeeds

:star: GRAPHITE ILLUSTRATION :star:

:bulletblue: [Description]

If you're looking for a highly detailed illustration containing characters, a story and atmospheric perspective, all done in graphite, this is where it's at. These kinds of illustrations are my specialty too, taking up more than 8-10 hours to draw and fully render. So you're pretty much paying me $10 or less an hour to complete a highly detailed illustration to your liking,
which I think is quite a bargain. XD

All graphite illustrations will be done in 11" X 14" Bristol or Vellum.

:bulletred: [Cost] = $100 USD (The standard already includes two predominant characters in the illustration as focal/non-focal points. Extra charges may apply if there are several important characters to be included in the drawing. We can negotiate from there to find the right budget matching your request.)

COMMISSION #09 Kafelnikov ($135) by darkspeeds

COLOR and FULL RENDER options are available upon request. Please contact me for a quote.

:bulletgreen: TERMS & CONDITIONS :bulletgreen:

Here are some rules to follow. READ THEM, respect them and I can get your commission done in good time:

  • PLEASE send me a DETAILED DESCRIPTION of what you're requesting. The more detail the better since you're here to get the most out of your commission!
Please let me know if you have a particular style you'd like me to use for your commission - e.g. Sonic (anthro cartoon), anime, realism, etc.

  • Having VISUALS REFERENCES will be a big plus to help me get the best out of your commission, in fact it'll save you money too! For commissions that are purely based on description (e.g. you have a full bio of your character but don't have an existing visual or finished artwork of your character design) I will charge $10 USD per page that I sketch for research and design of your character or concept.

  • All commissions will undergo a warm-up or pre-conceptual stage where I'll sketch ideas onto paper and have it presented on blogs to show work-in-progress. These sketches do not cost anything to you, they are FREE! The only cost involving sketches of this nature is stated above (the point prior to this).

  • PRIORITY will be given to those who pay me in advance. For example if I have already picked five slots for the month (say A, B, C, D, & E), person A & B may have approached me with their requests first but because C paid me in full earlier he/she will get priority over A or B despite being next in line.

  • When details of the commission have been agreed upon, a 50% deposit is sometimes required at the start (depending on my discretion) and the rest of the payment is to be sent upon completion. The high resolution image will be sent to you once full payment has been received.

  • All payments to be made to my PAYPAL account (and PAYPAL ONLY, sorry guys!) - darkspeeds@hotmail.com
Also when performing the transaction DO NOT pass on the 'transaction fee' to my account - that is to be paid on your behalf. I will not accept payment if you do not meet this condition, and you will therefore forfeit your commission.

  • Requesting for the ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION to be sent to you is definitely an option! Note me for a negotiable rate of the original artwork and the rates for postage and handling.

  • Last by not least, every commissioned project I work on enables me the right to present ideas and concept sketches, based on the details of the commission, to the general public. If you prefer to have information, details, and/or artwork of your commission CONFIDENTIAL please let me know in advance.

:bulletgreen: ANY QUESTIONS? :bulletgreen:

Should you have any inquiries regarding commissions please don't hesitate to:
  • write a comment here,
  • send me a PM, or
  • throw me an e-mail at - darkspeeds@hotmail.com

Thank you for taking the time to read through my commissions page, have a happy time requesting!

How would the payment be in the case of we're paying you in other coin, like the Euro? Because I don't know how to use Paypal and they're the currency exchangeand the transaction fee, so how can we pay you the exact price? And can we pay you all the price before you start the comission? For the transaction fee, of course.

Oh that's easy, Paypal allows you to pay in any currency and they'll do the conversion for you.

Regarding my commission prices they will be paid in full as US dollars.

Hope that helps! *thumbs up*

Hey Darkspeeds, just going to shoot a question your way~

What if the commissioner DOESN'T have PayPal, but they live in Australia + willing to send the money via postage?

Just a thought, since I may commission you in the near future ;)

Great question mate!

To answer your question I won't accept money by post - it's too risky, for both you and myself.

Best to do a BPAY/bsb transfer from your Australia bank account (provided that you have one). Hope that helps!

Sure.

First get REALLY GOOD with your art.

Secondly be giving to the community and get more people watching you.

Thirdly, advertise yourself and be humble about it at the start, then as you gain momentum with your work you have right to up those prices. Don't sell yourself short, ever.

Do you have any limitations on what you can draw? Like, can you draw humans or characters from existing stories for example?

Hello Darkspeed! :)

I'm hoping to make commission with you within 2-3weeks (I owe some debt with my brother and dad. Plus, my stuff at eBay haven't sold lately. DX) I was wondering for $15 sketchwork; instead of completely drawn in digital; can you draw my two male sonic-fan characters in pencil sketch? With red & blue prismacolor or prang color pencils seperately? Or could you draw my characters with regular 2hb pencil, scan the sketch, and change the color with photoshop?

Thank you for listening to me!

Hi there LaLa!

Yeah sure, that would be PERFECT timing because I would have finished university by then. = )

Yeah I can handle your commission.

On the day of the commission please send me specific instructions: that is, link me to your characters and which one you'd like to have colored in red and blue (or both in one of the colors).

You don't need to tell me now, a reminder on the day that you're ready with payment in hand would be much appreciated.

Looking forward to sketching your commission!

You said that you will give the winners a free sketch of whatever they
wanted. Well... I was one of those winners.. I'm not disparate to get the sketch or
anything. But just take your time on doing it and don't hurry upon finishing it.
Because I know you go to university and you're busy. Just take your timeNeko Emoji-28 (Nyaa) [V2]

Looks like with your full drawings, if someone got 2 characters, you would be charging the same exact amount I would be for 2 characters in my "good" shading.  Interesting how that turned out.  an extra character is quite a deal in your prices.

Well I don't have a chart yet, I have been thinking about doing one though.  And keep in mind I am not as professional as you, and prices would be a base of how popular your art is and how much spar time you have to do them.

Currently I have only 2 kinds of options since they are the only two things people seem to pick.

Basic Shading  Thunder Bolt by Lord-Kiyo $15 + $10 for additional characters, optional background is included in first price

Better Shading Mace's Power by Lord-Kiyo $25 per character, optional background is included in first price

So far the biggest commission I did was with four characters making it $100 Dragon Night Out by Lord-Kiyo  Which so far is my favorite commission. :D

You know I honestly can't tell ya, I wish I knew (i.e. today's indivisualistic freelancing standards)! = )

The thing is you're doing the WHOLE page (including penciling, inking, AND a full rendering - and a bloody good job while at it)

If I were to base it off Archie prices (which is industry standard), from memory it would roughly translate to:

PENCILS = $50 per page
INK = $30 per page
COLORS = $30-40 per page

So potentially you can charge for more than a $100 USD per page, but it also depends on your reputation too which may help increase your premium.

Comic artists who are paid the industry standard... If you do the math, you're earning practically close to or less than the minimum wage in the US (per hour basis).

Quite shocking right?

And do you happen to have a commissions page? I'd like to check it out! = )

Well, I guess your estimate is pretty much on par with what I charge. You can have a gander at my current price sheet here. It's starting to look dated and I really ought to give it a graphic makeover. You're better at design than me, so I'm sure that's something you can appreciate.

I think you can afford to charge more for additional characters in the same commission. You're putting in just as much effort to draw them as the primary character, so a 60%-75% discount doesn't do it justice. I don't even advertise my commissions, yet I still get more than enough with the prices I set. Think about it.

You know you're absolutely right. I've just made adjustments to the pricing to the sketch work. Thanks for the advice, it makes sense not to undersell yourself.

I've also added in that 50% upfront payment rule that you've mentioned, hope you don't mind!

I like your graphic design on your commissions info - the clarity and presentation is top notch.

What about the cost for additional colour characters? If you're charging $10 for an extra sketched character, why are you charging the same amount for an extra coloured character? You're putting in more work. And yes, requesting a deposit is sensible business. Without naming names, I've dealt with a few punters in my time...

BTW, your conditions state that payment should be sent as a purchase to avoid incurring Paypal fees. Did I miss something? I thought personal transactions were free for both parties, which is why I encourage them. Oh, and I find it funny that you mention drawing humans is not your specialty. I wonder what your art teachers think of that. :hmm:

Good point once again. I've made the changes and it seems more reasonable now, especially when I'm about done with one year's worth of awesome tuition at the Academy of Art university.

Blimey, I know how that feels, mine got delayed payment for more than a month so I'm avoiding that now with the newly applied 50/50 rule.

I remember if you do it as a personal transaction you'll be charged the extra fee for it - but that's up to client - they have to pick that option of not forfeiting the fee - but they usually pass it on to me.

At this point of time I'm more confident in drawing the human figure but I've got a ways to go before I can get it right consistently - much like how I am with anthro-cartoon style.

ii) When are we going to get more interaction between the two? In other words, when can see them get it on again. The anticipation is killin' me! lmao! *SHOT* XXXD

Well your timing is good. In Chapter 11 (which is up next), guess who Harvey calls back to New Mobotropolis to help out with the few thousand "Blaze world" refugees dropped on their doorstep by Tails?

Actually that Waterfall scene is later down the road in my next saga "The Babylon War". I couldn't resist commissioning it out early by an artists who's name is "Rainwaterfallszone." She does them well. Plus I earned five commission slots for the comics I traded, so I had to fill them with the ideas I had in my head at the time. Now if only she'd finish #5. Been waiting since December, and I haven't even received a sketch yet.

I don't want to give away too much away because a lot happens between now and then; like how she is no longer pregnant for example. You'll see.

I'll will flashback brief clips of Sil/Leeta's first time in chap 11, but not too much detail because.....................ok one hint wont hurt........ lets just say, after dealing with the crisis, locked doors don't keep out a telekinetic from an actively used bathroom shower. =D

Ah yes, RWFZ did a great job with your commission! Hope you'll get your next one real soon!

And WHAT?!? No longer pregnant?! Oh no... Not an abortion! Was the shame and losing face too much?? Or perhaps it's a devasating injury during mission that caused it? What a tragedy! I really felt for Silver and Leeta, especially Silver since he was pretty darn excited and ready to take responsibility for their new kid - something in which I want to do some day.

Ha ha! Just tell me the whole thing, spoil it for me. *SHOT* XXXD

Thanks for the sneak peak, but I didn't expect Silver to be so forceful! That's invasion of Leeta's privacy man! O_O XD

lol! No you didn't.

I've always had a liking for romantic stuff, especially when it's a coupling I can dig into. And when I mean by romantic stuff I don't discount the stuff that follows after that - that scene you wrote of Sonic and Bunnie, god damn! For any guy or gal, it must feel so good after climax. lmao XXD

You see it's not just the sex and climax, the buildup is just as important. I dig the chemistry and I dig the TLC process, even afterwards.

And that is why I can't wait till I find my girl, cuz I want to treat her right, love, respect her and have fun too (not just the 'ha ha' stuff, getting it down and dirty is what I meant! XXD) ;)

=p

Well the truth for me is very mutual. That's why I enjoy writing it. The building up and chemistry is where the true romance is felt and enjoyed by the reader.....and frankly in real life too (learned from experience).

I noticed in some fics the writers kill that feeling off by going overboard with the written porno. There's a fic on FF I read once that has one of the sexiest short build up scenes with Knuckles and Sally I've ever read; but he kills the mood by going too graphic into the details for too damn long. Reality check, virgin's aren't going to be able to go at it like skilled porn stars their first time, and anyone who says they accomplished otherwise is full of crap!

You'll see as you read on that I balance it out and mix it up.....pending the actual level of romance that is. Jet isn't one known for his romantic side.....Oh...did I say that and give a possible hint away? :evillaugh:

She'll come, don't worry. The hardest part is game before she comes. Well of course. ;p

There is only one SilverxBlaze and one SonicXAmy comic that I really like featuring elements of softcore and well... The stuff after that. XXXD

I'm going to make an effort to read what the hell is going on between Tails and Babylon Rogues, I've been saving those parts till I'm done with school - which is in 2 weeks time! Yay! XD
