Secret Freedom Squadron (Process) by darkspeeds Secret Freedom Squadron (Process) by darkspeeds
And this is how it came to be for this drawing I posted an hour ago > :star: Secret Freedom Squadron :star:

I love it when things come together - the best moment is when you've reached to points 07-08, because from there you can apply some special effects that can really spruce up your finished artwork!

Find out what combination of filters will suit you best and when you have figured out the combination make it an 'ACTION' on Adobe Photoshop to shortcut the process!

Why do you start things out with the color blue?
Reply
:icondarkspeeds:
darkspeeds Featured By Owner Nov 6, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Originally I use blue for sketching roughs and guidelines on how the overall piece will come out at the end before inking. However in this case I changed my mind and went with the sketched art to be used in the final for line art.

Do you find that using colors besides black for the rough sketch process work better toward the overall piece you are working on?

Wow. Thanks for sharing this. I usually get to around the 5th panel stage then I get stuck... nice to see what extra touches can be added. :)

Now that Quinton Flynn is Silver's voice actor, he reminds a lot about Raiden (the Metal Gear Solid guy, NOT the Mortal Kombat guy).

The finished piece looks great. Nice of you to show the process.

Just wanted to know, did you keep the white streak on Lyco's hair to differentiate her dreads from her sisters?

Yes I did! :) I also did that on Larry intersecting with Shard to differentiate perspective for the untrained eye.

In the final product, all the colors are highly saturated. It seems that high saturated colors has become part of your signature coloring process compared to your previous deviations.

On using the colors and other adjustments, the display of Uncle Chuck, WHO & NICOLE easily reads as glass & in addition, the glass effect creates a blurred effect & light reflections that separates the three from the six. Asides from the high saturated colors, I have also noticed some of the desaturated colors that help push out the high saturated colors. I am guessing that the light source is coming from behind the six.

& as always, a very fantastic job & I greatly look forward to more of your works in the future.

Thanks! Well analysed. I want to do a mix of saturated and desaturated stuff in future. I feel that alot of the desaturated stuff on DA's digital art community is how the pros approach their piece. I'll have to find out what is it that ticks.

I like 08 best. Looks like something you'd see out the comics. 09 looks a bit gloomy and the finished piece is a bit... intense.

Nice work, as always.

Yeah it's always tempting to choose something really close to 08 but it lacked depth. Sacrifices have been made for choosing 10. :D
