Nara87's Fanart Coloured by darkspeeds Nara87's Fanart Coloured by darkspeeds
After four years this fan art piece is something I still really admire. The redesign that came from Nara87 was impeccable. It didn't look too 'Soniccy' and it didn't look to 'furry' either. A perfect balance I thought to myself at that time.

This could have been a turning point for me as I could have used her design (with permission of course) as a staple for the series 4 years ago... But I decided to take the lazy route and stuck with what I learnt from Yuji Uekawa style (ala Sonic Adventure design artist from Sonic Team Japan). Though it was a safe way to appeal readers there was the sacrifice of the series lacking originality from a design perspective.

I have no regrets though as over the fours years I've slowly found out new ways to deviate from Yuji Uekawa's style and formulate a perfect blend between the two styles mentioned above to make what I call 'anthro-cartoon' style.

The current GRAND HUNTER series uses this style and will continue to explore new ways to further deviate away from an official 'Sonic Adventure' style. Inspirations that keep me on the route to a more original anthro-cartoon style include Dream Keepers, X-DRAGOON, Bittersweet Candy Bowl and Amulet series.

Also, please visit :iconnara87: gallery as she hosts an impressive gallery of dragons - all drawn and painted by herself.

In addition I've made an official update to the GRAND HUNTER website and added a new sub-section - 'BACK IN TIME' under the 'FOR FANS' section. I'm still surprised that I have over 500 pieces of fan art collected over the four years creating this GRAND HUNTER series! Do check them out. ;)

Beautifully composed and coloured in every aspect. I love watching Ashworth's evolution over time, and I look forward to where it's going in the future.

Surprisingly the line art to this was drawn 4 years ago by another artist named Nara87. It would have been cool if I actually used this style but it still looked too Soniccy - just done in a more 'serious' looking anthro tone.

Well Ashworth will continue to grow as I expand the story and reveal it's premise in Chapter 10. :D

I would love to see you try some 'fake' evolutions of the Grand Hunter crew. Like you know how for Kid Icarus, they had to act as if Pit evolutionized for brawl, and went through stages of developement as if it were game to game?

I think you should do so with styles that you've admired. Because by doing so you learn the best of what makes up those styles and how they work for you, and then mash them into your own frankenstien creation. I learned this recently in one of my character design classes.
