Mobian Theatre [logo design] by darkspeeds Mobian Theatre [logo design] by darkspeeds
Wow the wonders of what the school of Graphic Design at Central TAFE is doing for me.

I designed this in less than an hour and am pleased to say that I have plans to bring back Sonic Comic dramas in a more 'legally safe' sense.

I was warned about the dangers of posting full comic scans based off my favourite comic series/publications in the past when producing Sonic Comic Dramas - and now I asked myself that there must be another way to keep creative fans, like myself and friends alike, entertained.

And so after putting a halt to SCD operations in the past 4 months (in which I could have completed three of them by now) I decided to take a break and think of a solution.

As of late I've become a big fan of the oldschool 1970's American radio plays (back in the day it was their form of entertainment - TV's weren't invented just yet!) and the channel that I'm listening to at the moment is called MYSTERY THEATRE (hence the origins of the name to this logo). Seriously CBS's Radio Mystert Theatre is a goldmine of classic entertainment, I'm starting to learn more about the history and culture of America's love of mystery, suspense and thriller programs of the 70's. If you would like to check it click on this link.

So far I've listened to 10 episodes and plan on listening to the rest of the shows - a total 1399 of them!!

I feel that I can learn a lot from these shows, not only will I be able to understand how drama works for the listening audience but also I can catch up on my much needed nourishment of telling good stories - a useful skill for any illustrator planning to do comics/children's books/story-boarding for animation.

Instead of reading books (which I'm not too strong on, but I should really read once in a while darn nam it!) I can listen to radio dramas and build up on my vocab and understanding of characterization and such.

Anyways at this point of time I'm going to be doing all Sonic Comic Dramas in oldschool radio play format - but with an extra special twist - I'll be having characters from the Sonic Universe play as host (it's gonna be Sonic mainly, duh!) and also encourage listeners to post in their questions to ask to specific characters of the Sonic Archie universe and get a reply! This is much like what I've seen of SONICSONG182's very successful 'Ask the Sonic Heroes' program.

So yeah that's the plan for now, no concrete idea on the release date of the first episode of MOBIAN THEATRE but be sure to know that it'll involve a very scrambled issue - "Oh ho ho ho ho hooooh!" (oh gosh how many more clues do you need?) :D 8-)

Hi there Laura!

... I think I've find my Sally Acorn! lol

Nevertheless a great recording that was - short and sweet, the way I like it.

At the moment I haven't any shows planned that feature the lovely princess however in future issues of Sonic Archie (when she deroboticize) perhaps there may be chance to get her featured and you would a top candidate to fill her shoes!

I'll bookmark your site but please give me a reminder should you hear any new from me that require a voice role for Sally or any other female voices that I may have trouble finding. *thumbs up*

Hmm you know a voice demo reel would be perfect if you had one. I'd like to see what you can offer regarding Tails. Try other characters too to show off your range - it'll give directors like myself a feel of what you could potentially do.

I'm currently looking into doing the full Chaotix arc after coming back from my trip to the United States in August. Be sure to watch this space for updates! *thumbs up*

No problems! Looking forward to your voice demo reel!

And yes Charmy would be cool to try out! Think you can handle Ray the Squirrel? I'm going to need someone who can portray his emotional side to the fullest when he's explaining to Matilda just how much Mighty has done to get his sister back. ;)

OMG!!! Over a thousands views in just one day!!

Now that's a new record right there!!

Noticed a lot of "mobian theatre" types typed in black & serif fonts (what looks like "Times New Roman") all compressed together to form a Sonic silhouette.

I have never heard of MYSTERY THEATRE before.

Hmm.. an interesting take on doing the Sonic Comic Dramas in a radio format.

I look forward towards the rest of the way.

So that explains why you've been listening to old school radio dramas recently~ You plan on making some Sonic Comic based radio dramas yourself. :3

In a way, it makes sense to wanna taken them in that direction, what with the dangers of posting comic scans online (as I've heard many who have done that had their accounts banned) making it that much harder for some fans who don't have access to the comics (due to money or whatnot) to enjoy them. The last thing you'll want is to loose your account and have that many more fans miss out on all your hard work.

But I do fully support your idea for this. It'll be very interesting to see how you go about this, and you know I wanna take part in the voice acting (that's always the fun part~). What I think will be the really interesting part is seeing how other fans will take this new format. Instead of having images to watch while listening, they'll have to use their imaginations to fill in the blanks, just like how people did when radio dramas were big in the old days.

And it never hurts to expand your vocabulary by either reading or listening to the radio dramas, it's how I grew to have a big vocabulary when writing. Sometimes even when I speak, though it rarely happens. ^^;

Anyhow, I do look forward to your first radio drama. ^^ I know you have it in you to pull it off :hug::hug: Also I wanted to ask if you heard my voice recording yet? ^^;

Oh, and you might wanna make a change in your description there~ Television wasn't made until the late 40's to 50's. Radio was prominent during the early 20th century here in America, until the invention of television diminished the popularity of radio dramas. ^^;

Hey there Ashley! :)

My apologies in advance for not replying sooner - further apologies since I haven't had the chance to have a listen to your latest voice recording - I will get to it soon.

Been really busy with assignments lately, I didn't expect to be falling a behind a little! I gotta spend less time procrastinating during the weekend in which I could have been most productive! lol

So far I've been listening to 20 episodes of Mystery Theater and boy are they a treat to listen to! I especially love those old-school American ads! "Just another friendly piece of advice from the 'Better Business Bureau'! * cheesy fanfare blaring in the BG* :D

Oh and thanks for the factual clarification on the TV's - I fixed it when you made the reply 10 days ago. ;)

Also... I don't know why I'm telling you this but I'm in the mood to well find me some lovin'... *SHOT* XXXXXD Bet noone will read this. XD Sorry just being cheeky. XP ;)

Anyways hope you're doing alright back home! *thumbs up*

Oh and regarding the Sonic radio drama format - yeah I'm looking forward to that, I've got much to prepare but only when I come back from my trip to San Francisco and Comic Con this year will I be ready to post some shows for it's official debut. :)

I'm glad to hear you're doing well yourself. ^^ But you better do your best to stay ontop of things~ I'd hate for you to fall behind on your schoolwork. So keep at it. :3

Yeah, those old radio dramas are pretty cool actually. It's kinda amazing how well they were all put together and the level of professionalism that was put into each and every one of them. They did a good job making them all exciting and worth giving a listening to. Generations before us had those radio dramas and such as their main form of entertainment, like how we have TV and the internet for ours with the current generation.

I've been doing well back home ^^ Staying busy with work and everything and getting ready for spring to finally come. I'm getting sick of winter and the cold weather, I wanna get out and enjoy warm sunny days for a change! >.< It's probably starting to look a lot more like fall where you are huh?

Cheeky dork is cheeky =P But be patient you~ You'll find someone soon, that much faith I've got in you. ^^ Who knows, you may get lucky when you come to San Francisco this summer. Aside from going to Comic Con (which you're lucky to even go to >w<) I'm betting you'll be meeting up with old friends and hanging out there too huh? ^^

Oh my Gooooood, Sonic Universe is BY FAR THE WORST SONIC COMIC OUT THERE! The characters are so bad! And not to mention the crappy story-line.

Sorry, I cannot help but rant. I am a huge fan of Sonic (1991-2001 games only) and I've always preferred original over newer stuff.

I know that most of the characters in Sonic Universe are much older characters, but I have personally never liked those characters. I would chose Rosy Rascal over Sally Acorn any day. I kind of despise the fact that Sonic made babies with Sally and named them after his brother and sister from Sonic Underground (LOVED that show as a kid, and still do to be honest).

And I apologize for the rant but I just had to...

Wow, glad to see your classes are paying off that fast. Looks plenty cool!

Ah, having as pure audio is definitely more legal and adding in the asking questions section sounds like it'll be a lot of fun as well. Any chance for fake radio ads and sponsors? Those could be funny. :D

Having it in a radio format makes it so that people who actually have the issue can read along for the issues adapted, right? More encouragement to buy the books.

Gosh fake radio ads... Now that's something to consider, Mobian related ads... Shadow Crisps... BIG THE CAT cereal bars... Dr. Eggman's Cosmetics... *SHOT*

Now then I'm gonna ask ya something - did you read up on the Scrambled Arc? Would you like to ask Dr. Eggman a question regarding that arc and have it answered on the show? Come on, give me one to pass on to him. :D

Of course pure Comic Dramas don't apply to comic series/publishers/artists that don't mind having their comic advertised this way. ^^ Dreamkeepers being one of them.

Oh that's great! Just curious...

The kind of questions they get asked, I mean they're to be as close to the canon universe of Sonic right? I'm just curious to know how and what kind of questions are asked regularary in the program - most likely possible romance stuff between certain characters that fans would like to hook up. lol I bet those are popular. :)

:iconmisssonicfan:
MissSonicFan Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2013
Of course, they try to get as close as possible to the real, canon Sonic.
Though, I have to admit that their Shadow to me is a smidge too out of character to me...Maybe it's his voice or what he says and acts on the show..? I don't know, but I don't absolutely hate it or anything, it's probably just because I see Shadow a loner or something. Hahaha.

As for the questions, I think they get a pretty adequate amount of 'romance' questions...Especially on the Valentine's Day episode. They have a system where they have a number scale and the person portraying the character picks a number between the scale, which is a question. Basically, the creator have really no control on the questions they are going to do for that show. (except the inappropriate ones, which I think they eliminate before hand.)
But I'm surprised that you mentioned that, you'd think that all the questions would be about fans and their favorite ships and making them do things with eachother. lol I guess they are pretty popular for that matter. XD

Aw cool, thanks a bunch for the insight!

I'm just wondering, do you read the Sonic Archie comics? And if you do did you managed to read up on the 'Scrambled Arc' featuring Eggman?

If you said yes to both accounts how about you pass on some questions to me to pass on to Dr. Eggman who will be answering anything regarding that arc live when Mobius Theatre begins next month. ;)

Haha, you're welcome. XD
It's probably a lot more insight than you probably needed, huh? Heheh. ^^;

Sigh, I wish I had the time to read them. I have a few comics here and there and I try to pick them up every chance I get. I usually have to read them online because the area where I live really doesn't have comic book stores or anything. I really wish I could ask. Eggman seems a lot more robust in the comics than in the games, doesn't he? I really can't wait for next month! I watch your comic dubs of Sonic Universe on YouTube and I have to say, you make it look so pro and polished, like it's an official comic dub or something. Maybe I could get to the 'Scrambled Arc' later and try to read it. :D

Sorry to hear that you can't get those books from where you're at - however there is always the online option, sometimes it's cheaper and more convenient to purchase the book as a digital copy. ;)

And thanks for the feedback, I hope to make some sense out of this question time read through for the characters involved in the story!

I used the PEN tool to trace the original image. I wanted to use an image that many people would be familiar with. Originally I had several different concepts but I've changed the plan to stick to something where it'll have mass appeal - something that many can recognise from first instance - but at the same time be enticed to see what it is close-up.

And yes my lecturer from GD classes tells me, less is more (but it doesn't work all the time though, so keep that in mind!).
