Heroes at Heart by darkspeeds Heroes at Heart by darkspeeds
This piece is dedicated to Jake Parker who is a man of many talents - and that alone is really an understatement. I've only just caught up on his stuff this week and was blown away by how far he's progressed in his career. I purchased his Missile Mouse books a few years back and that was how I got exposed to his stuff.

Nevertheless here you see two characters - one that I know of and one who is new to me.
Missile Mouse to your left and Wake (from his new series: Sky Heart) - both share a common trait: they are heroes to the core.

I won't forget the quote that Mr. Parker used from MM's father: "Promise me that you'll remember this - you are a mouse that matters".

Mr Parker has taught me alot this past week after browsing through his work, he inspired me. In fact he's given me purpose and I will do what I can to make sure that my art matters. More on this when I post my journal in an hours time!

Thanks Jemi! It's lovely to browse through your gallery again - it's got a nice variety of illustrations - not just cartoon characters! :D

Oh wow, wasn't expecting you to remember me or for you to even browse through my gallery again, it's much appreciated! :D I'm glad you noticed the variety; it's been something I've tried to work on in recent years (as much as I love cartoons, I can't stick to it forever and remain stagnant, ey)

I did not think this was drawn by you, you did so well to make it so different.

This is one of the key things that Jake taught me subconsciously - he allow me to explore design and take it a little more seriously to differentiate myself from other people's work. Change the proportions, play with shapes, render a little differently etc. This is how you can create something that is signature to you.

It's always good to pay tribute to the artists who inspired you.
I hope he may have a chance to see this by chance.
I really like that line too - it's essential to know that you are indeed important. To move forward in career. To make better art. To wake up in the morning.

Dynamic poses - very cool back to back as well!

I think TwinTailFireFox12 brought up a great point about the back to back style of pose and the one shown in this picture does a great job of reflecting that and what I think is the biggest strength of this. I especially love how that sword came out and the colors and both characters look great too.

Neat picture. You know the back to back pose is always one of my favorites in commissions and media. It symbolizes a meaning of trust since you are putting your backs to one another, exposing your most venerable side. But you know that your partner who is doing the same will never betray you. It's a wonderful pose and I don't see it all that often. I think the last time it was used was the box art cover of 4 Four Adventures for the gamecube (that was a weird Zelda game) ^^ Nicely done Elson always great as usual. Also are you trying out a new mode of color?

Thanks Kayla! Lovely analysis you got there of the 'back to back' pose.

I'm trying new things now thanks Mr Parker, I've been inspird this week and it has made my art a little stronger in terms of design, form and rendering. I'm finally taking that step to just put my take, my interpretation of other people's work that I admire.
