Just For Fun Series (Piece 11)

Source: Tails Away

Go behind the scenes and check out how my manga pages came to life! XD :D

For those of you who are interested on the pre-works I've managed to combine three of the latest pages into one deviation. :D

Hope you'll have fun, have a laugh, and learn a thing or two. ;)

P.S. TA Chpt2: Page 9: Heading Back will be coming very soon. :)

:-- "Just For Fun Series" is used for the following reasons:

1) A teaser page for a current manga I'm working on. (e.g. Tails Away)

2) A resource page for a current manga I'm working on. This means a page that is sketched before-hand. A page that is drawn before the final finishing touches are added to the page. This is for those who wish to understand how some pages are drawn in the process.

3) A concept sketch of some sort. Maybe a character design of the latest manga: 'Healing Hearts' or a map/script in drawing of a certain chapter I'm doing.

4) A blooper of some sort but not done in the quality that is of a regular manga page with shading or other specified methods (e.g. coloured).

:-- All JFF pieces are sent to the scrapbook within a weeks time. Depending on the artist's decision, if he feels it should continue to stay in the 'deviant' gallery then it shall be done.

Nice page layout, you will surely become a good mangaka if you start to work on your original stuff.

Wow you really mean it?? O_O;;

*bows in thanks*

That is most encouraging especialyl coming from a pro.

The essential thing I've learnt from interpreting your mangas Mayshing was the 'Art of Simplicity'.

No I definetly did not mean your mangas were never consistent on detail... XD But your mangas showed something very important that differentiated from my old pages pages. :)

My panels had to be at wild angles... My pages had to be filled to the brim on space... My panels had to conect to others... All ofhtis had lead to a very complicated form of layout.

Until I came across your technique of the non-butterfly, non-active layout in your Manga Making Tutorial - Reference Page No. 2. :D

It was then when I realised how awesome this technique was... I retraced back to your old mangas and comparing your new ones - it still held the fundamental element that was of importance to a pleasant viewing of your mangas...

Yes it's the Basic layout. =)

You've manage to portray every single detail - whatever you wanted to say to the reader out loud - perfectly on each and every panel and I just couldn't figure how... @_@...

The rectangles... Just like the ones in Doreamon... I read a couple and then fom Slamdunk... Yakitate... Page after page I finally realised that...

The amount of detail put onto the layout is not essential to making a more detailed page... ^_^

And thus I've started using Basic layout ever since. ^_~

And it's thanks to your for your inspirations Mayshing. Xie Xie ni! *bows in thanks once more*

My dream to be a manga artist will rest for now becuase I've still got to own my family/parents the favour of graduating and gaining a successful job first. (and my other RL goal is to be with my love and to share my joys with her wherever I go... ^_^)

By then a lot would have been accomplished in future and you know it is most probable that I will see a copy... no maybe dozens of various mangas with the artist entitled 'Christine Chong' on it. ^_^

Anyway... X3 ^^; *chuckles* ^_^ Thank you so much for your words, it may be short but it's worth a lot to me. ^_~ Take it easy and I'll check up more on your work when I go back to uni this coming month... :)

That's a long reply to my short sentence. ^^;

I had to grow out of basic layout, because it was limiting me, then I move back into it when I feel I need to be more steady.
A friend's conversation with a publisher helped me: (its my friend "tikal")
"Have you ever thought of what kind of mangaka you are? Categorize yourself?"
"Huh? I have never thought of that." O_O
"You are the story teller type, your story holds important content, then it's your goal to make that content come out, so flowery panels can become a distraction. Only those who has no content need the graphic to touch up, in your case, that's not needed. To express your content successfully is the most important."

I am glad one publisher's editor agree with me on my view...
So in the end is...

"Make it interesting for yourself, make it clear for yourself, make it easy for yourself, make it express what you want."

As simple as that.

*joys this on notebook*...

*scribble scribble*

Bah I don't need that! *throws away pen and paper*

I got this in my heart. *smiles* *chuckles* ^_^

Awww so cool...

Pearls of wisdom I gather... =) It's very interesting to hear your experiences and insights as an artist. Wow now that you've mentioned it... I wonder how I would categorise myself... :D Heh..heh.. Anyway. ^_^;;

"Make it interesting for yourself, make it clear for yourself, make it easy for yourself, make it express what you want."

Mmhh.. I can learn alot from these... ^_^ *nods head* The last one, the way you summarised is very clear.... Thank you. :)

(So my Tails Away comic is about a character who seeks his past in order to reveal his destiny... That is his independence...)

And as for SA2 Fan-Comic is about a character who learns and experiences both ends of the human heart and how humanity keeps it's boundaries of good and evil...)

Wow it's as if my mind is so much clearly now! XD XD XD ^_____^

Man I've said it many times but I'll say it again, thank you Mayshing-san! ^_^

Ack... the same thing has happened AGAIN! O___O (happened to me earlier) Everyone made the best opinions and mine's gonna be... really cheesy X____X;; Anyway, I'll give it a shot.

I always thought your comic pages looked so cool when they were still all sketchy like that. It really gives a deeper look at how much detail is added with the shading alone. You also tend to add such cute little notes and jokes on your pages when they're unfinished. ^^

And those little pics of you that you draw on the pages when expressing your own opinions and giving tips look SO FUDGING CUUUUUUUTE! ^____^

But, I gotta agree with *taeshilh. O__O;; I had thought you were just drawing it the same both times XD I commend you for figuring out how to copy it so well like that so it fits, though. That's pretty clever.

That last page looks so cool all sketchy like that. How in the name of chaos do you make those dialogue bubbles so well shaped?! Holy geez... And the expressions all look awesome as always ^__~ The little face pic of yourself on the last page thing where you're winking suits you very well ^^

FIRST PANEL: Amy's expression is obviously lovesick ^_~ She's dreamy and thinking of Sonic

SECOND PANEL: Amy's expression is a cross between embarassment and surprise. "?!!" type of thing ^^ Tails' expression is sort of a skeptical one. "Heh... Amy... don't try to lie, I know you better than you think"

THIRD PANEL: The both of them are holding their fair share of embarrassment

^__^ ...

See you later, sweetheart. Keep up the incredible stuff and cleverness

Ohh..this is very interesting indeed~ I wonder what that blurred panel is though. Ah well! Guess we'll find out soon enough (I hope!). favorite part of this picture is probably the lower middle panel, with Tails' funny expression! XD It's so cute and priceless, great job ^^

honest to god, I am just amazed at how you can get so much shadeing detial from just pencil. I know I shouldn't be but I have never seen people able to do that before
