COMMISSION #17 Avlynnthefox ($20) by darkspeeds COMMISSION #17 Avlynnthefox ($20) by darkspeeds

Title: "Cartwheel"
Commission type: Character Illustration (on 8.27' x 11.69' Cardstock)
Total time: 3 hours
Cost: $20

I'll have to admit that this illustration took much longer than I had anticipated - it shows my lack of experience drawing more dynamic poses and how the human anatomy works in more complicated actions of the body. I used this image for reference: www.dreamstime.com/stock-photo…
and deviated it a little by having Avlynn's character face towards us and her left arm reaching for the side.

I'm rather pleased with the outcome, though the perspective/proportion of her anatomy could be improved and also some of the folds on her clothing could have been expressed more rhythmically and realistically by having the folds fall with gravity (sorry Thomas!).

Overall this has been an excellent opportunity to learn more about our bodies and how it takes a lot of research, patience, and persistence to get it lookin' just right! Plus I get paid for it - what a lovely bonus!

Here is the original design to Avlynnthefox:

Oh and if you're wondering why she's doing a cartwheel, well I made her do one, she's an acrobatic!

I'm most impressed with the shading you sketched onto the shirt, and you've done an excellent job in reproducing the reference image for a complicated pose like this. (I sometimes had to resort to posing 3D models for my purposes.) What bothers me is that the girl's face comes off as a bit too masculine. Do you see it, yourself?

You definitely have a good eye for these things Glitcher, indeed she does look a bit more masculine than that she should with that facial design (inspired by a raccoon). Perhaps a more curved jawline, rounder eyes and smaller sizing of certain features like her nose. I'll keep note of that mate, cheers for the analysis.
